Adventures with Twins

I am alone with the tots today. Pretty confident that I have everything under control. I decided to put them down a little bit early for nap time. They seem SO tired and I know I am! I try to get them to crawl up the stairs themselves. They ALWAYS walk past the stairs into the living room or the "forbidden room". Faith climbs all over the couches while Brandon goes straight to a little end table to see what he can knock down. It is so hard to gather them - it's kinda like herding cattle I think! Some how, they crawl upstairs. Once there - one goes one direction while the other goes the opposite. I grab Faith and put her in their room and close the door. (I will NEVER do this again!) I find Brandon in our room running around with a grin on his face. I bring Brandon to their room .. and the door is LOCKED!!!!! WHAT?!?!?! I try and remain calm. I put Brandon down and he happily runs back to my room - but that's ok for now. I call out for Faith. I keep calling her and knocking on the door AS IF she is going to unlock it?? It is one of those push button locks. She can reach the door knob and I think she did lock it in the 1st place. She is not answering me. (yeah - I know she can't talk, but she could make some kinda noise!) Silence. The door of course has one of those holes. I remember unlocking these types of doors with a wire hangar in the past. I look for a wire hangar - don't have ANY! Who does? I don't even want to take the time to look for tools. I start to panic (still calling out "FAITH") I am thinking - she could be eating diaper rash ointment, lotion, steroid cream!! I briefly think about breaking the door. I grab my wallet, find an old Hechts gift card and try to jimmy the lock. I shove the card in the door, it is not budging. I stick my fingers under the door hoping Faith will think it's funny and at least let me know she is ok.. and the door magically opens. (must have been the card) I'm in the room - DON"T SEE MY DAUGHTER! And then I find her - sitting indian style in the closet chewing on a teething ring. Looking SO sweet and innocent! Thank you GOD!

EEEK!!! I don't have a wire hanger either! We haven't had this problem yet....but Jake can flip the deadbold lock that we have on both the front door and the kitchen door. GRRRR! I think we need to install those hotel chain things waaaay up high just in case he gets the front door unlocked. UGH! Glad Faith is ok....PHEW!

YIKES i would have gotten a skewer from the kitchen or a paper clip. I did that once but it was 3am and I was IN my son's room because he woke up and was crying. I shut the door so He didn't wake the other two. I went to open the door and the door knob came of into my hands!!! Not to mention I had to pee something aweful. I kept yelling into the monitor in his room. It took twenty minutes of yelling to get my husband to wake up and let me out. LOL!

Hey Peggy! Thanks for stopping by! That is so scary! That happened to me one time and I had to call the military police to come help me get the door opened! She had written all over the walls with permanent marker, but other than that, she was fine! Twins are a handful, aren't they?

Oh, how scary and sort of funny at the same time. I'm glad I read this because I can see my two doing this so now I will have to make sure the key is somewhere I can get it. I wonder if she was thinking "finally, some peace and quiet from my brother" - ha ha. Glad that everything turned out okay!
